Yard Work

I spent yesterday evening and this morning doing some much needed yard work. Here's the before picture, although from this far away it's hard to tell the difference between before and after. My yard has needed mowed for several days, but as you all know, it rained all weekend and Monday evening. So my grass was ridiculously long and needed to be raked after mowing with my awesome reel mower. That thing is surprisingly fun to use! I finally got a string trimmer too, so all the tall grass up against the house and deck is gone! I trimmed back the front bushes, which made a big difference. You can see and walk between them now (and see my alarm sign), so it actually looks like separate bushes instead of one big bush. I also put down new mulch, a whopping 7 bags of mulch. I used a darker brown than was already down which I think looks nicer. And I planted some petunias. I'm not sure how they'll do since there's that weed preventing mesh in the beds from the previous owners, but it's at least worth a shot. And even if they die, they'll look pretty for a week or so first. I knew I'd have yard work when I bought a house instead of a condo, but I thought I'd hate doing it more than I do. It's definitely more motivating and more rewarding to be done when it's your own house. But that still doesn't mean I love it...
